Frequently Asked Questions

Does it cost me anything to use Illinois Computes’ systems and support staff?

Illinois Computes provides a basic level of offerings for both computing/storage systems and support, to all University Illinois researchers. Researchers with needs that exceed the base offerings should work with a member of the NCSA team to learn about more options and associated pricing for such needs. The base offerings are subject to change over time.

What if I don’t know what I need?

That is one reason support and research consulting are important parts of this program. Our team can help you determine what you need.

How do I know if I am eligible to use the resources available in the Illinois Computes Programs?

University researchers from all parts of campus are eligible and can submit a request to access resources and/or expertise.

What if I don’t need a supercomputer?

Illinois Computes is for research computing needs – from a single node to a supercomputer. If you need more computing than you already have at your desk, Illinois Computes may be the solution for you.

How do I acknowledge support from Illinois Computes?

Whether you used Illinois Computes storage, compute or personnel resources, you can acknowledge this support with the following statement: “This research was supported in part by the Illinois Computes project which is supported by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the University of Illinois System.”
