The New Frontier Initiative’s Hydro system
The New Frontier Initiative’s Hydro system was a high-performance compute cluster designed to support research and development in national security, preparedness, and other scientific domains. It featured a mix of CPU types and GPUs. Hydro was equipped to handle a broad spectrum of computational and data-intensive tasks, from large-scale simulation and modeling to advanced big data and artificial intelligence research. Hydro was an alternative resource to the Illinois Campus Cluster that worked better for some use cases.
Hydro was decommissioned in June 2025.
