How do I know if I am eligible to use the resources available in the Illinois Computes Programs?
University researchers from all parts of campus are eligible and can submit a request to access resources and/or expertise. Additional details on which resources and expertise can be utilized are available on the What’s Available page.
Does it cost me anything to use Illinois Computes systems and consulting support?
Illinois Computes provides a basic level of offerings for both computing/storage systems and support, to all University of Illinois researchers. Researchers with needs that exceed the base offerings may work with a member of the Illinois Computes team to learn about more options and associated pricing for such needs. The base offerings are subject to change over time. Additional details on which resources and expertise can be utilized are available on the What’s Available page.
What if I don’t need a supercomputer?
Illinois Computes provides a number of different computation resources, including virtual machines (VMs) and Jupyter Notebooks as well as storage options.
Illinois Computes is continuously working to determine what other types of resources are needed to support the entire research community. Let us know what you need if you don’t see it listed.

How do I acknowledge support from Illinois Computes?
Whether you used Illinois Computes storage, compute or personnel resources, you can acknowledge this support with the following statement: “This research was supported in part by the Illinois Computes project which is supported by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the University of Illinois System.”
Can I used Illinois Computes resources to support instruction?
Currently, Illinois Computes’ resources are primarily intended to support research. Only the Campus Cluster currently has any official support for instructional use. Illinois Computes’ leadership is aware of desire for more support for instruction and is exploring ways to accommodate this.
